GivingTuesday celebrated in India for the 5th year during #DaanUtsav
The #GivingTuesdayIndia hashtag reached 1.63 million on Tuesday, Oct 5 with messages about giving from different parts of India reaching the world!
This DaanUtsav, the annual weeklong festival of giving in India starting with Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday on Oct 2, witnessed the celebration of GivingTuesday for the 5th time in India. GivingTuesday is the global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organisations to transform their communities and the world. GivingTuesday was created in the US, in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the years, it has grown into a global movement (nearly 75 countries) that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
This year’s events focussed on impacting millions of lives through trusted NGOs, with donations and volunteering support. These included: an engaging online giving challenge on Milaap.org to support NGOs certified by GuideStar India, an employ-a-thon b Atypical Advantage to support 1000 NGOs find jobs for people with disability, a campaign by Points for Good to donate loyalty points, a unique donation gift card from DonateKart, probono professional coaching for NGO leaders from CoachesForYou, a film making contest to tell stories of good and a host of other volunteering initiatives. #GlobalGivingVillage, a campaign to share stories of giving in local communities in the “global village” captured the wave of generosity from villages across India and some of the other 75 countries that are a part of the #GivingTuesday movement.
