Support Child Safety

The first study on Child Sexual Abuse in India was conducted by Recovery and Healing from Incest (RAHI), an Indian non-government organization (NGO) in 1998. Majority (76%) of the participants reported being abused during childhood or adolescence.

In 2007, the Government of India conducted the largest study, till then, in the world on the subject of Child Sexual Abuse (Study on Child Abuse: India 2007. India, Ministry of Women and Child development Government of India. 2007). The results they found are terrifying – more than 53% of the 12447 children surveyed had experienced child sexual abuse. Assuming this sample is representative of a larger trend, this means close to 250 million children in India have experienced some form of sexual abuse.

The issue of CSA is still a taboo in India. In India, a majority of the people remain numb about this issue. This silence is due to the fear of indignity, denial from the community, social stigma, not being able to trust government bodies, and gap in communication between parents and children about this issue. (Study on Child Abuse: India 2007)

Since its inception, Rubaroo has been working with children and adult stakeholders to create awareness on the issue of child sexual abuse and addressing it through personal safety education. Rubaroo’s team of qualified psychologists and counsellors administer Rubaroo’s programmes and are eminently suited to working with children in distress and providing them with counselling and healing services.

Children between the ages of 4 and 18 are the primary beneficiaries of the programme. However, Rubaroo recognises that preventing child sexual abuse is fundamentally an adult responsibility, therefore, apart from working with children directly, Rubaroo also works with adult stakeholders, including but not limited to parents, teachers, and school leaders.

Over the years, Rubaroo has reached out to 23000+ children and 13000+ adults
